Château Beychevelle is a prestigious Fourth Growth (Quatrième Grand Cru Classé) estate located in Saint-Julien, Médoc, Bordeaux—one of the most celebrated appellations in France. This 3-liter Double Magnum format presents the estate's signature Grand Vin in an impressive bottle ideal for cellaring or special occasions.
The wine is typically composed of approximately 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, and 3% Cabernet Franc, drawn from the estate's 90 hectares of prime Garonne gravel terroir adjacent to the Gironde estuary. The vineyard is increasingly farmed using organic practices, with over 35% of vines currently grown organically.
Beychevelle consistently delivers wines of exceptional elegance, finesse, and complexity, with aromas and flavors of blackcurrant, ripe cherry, cedar, tobacco, mint, and mineral notes. Silky, polished tannins and vibrant acidity carry through to a long, persistent finish. Recent vintages have earned critical scores between 92 and 97 points, with the 2022 vintage achieving 97 points.
The estate's history dates to 1565, when Bishop François de Foix Candale commissioned the grand château now often called the "Versailles of the Médoc." Its name derives from the French "Baisse Voile" (lower the sails), commemorating the historical tribute paid by ships passing on the Gironde River. Today the property is owned by Grands Millésimes de France, a partnership between the Castel and Suntory groups. The Double Magnum format is especially prized for its superior aging potential, with fine vintages capable of developing beautifully over 10 to 40 years.
