Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is a prestigious Deuxième Grand Cru Classé (Second Growth) estate from the Saint-Julien appellation in the Médoc, Bordeaux, France, classified in the historic 1855 Bordeaux Classification. This 3-liter Double Magnum format (equivalent to four standard bottles) is ideal for cellaring and entertaining, and large-format bottles are widely regarded as promoting superior long-term aging.
The estate's 75-hectare vineyard takes its name from the French "beaucaillou," meaning "beautiful stones," a reference to the large, well-drained gravel terroir that defines the property. The wine is a blend of approximately 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot, with vines averaging 35 years in age — the oldest parcel, Les Sadons, was planted in 1918. Since 2018, the estate has transitioned to organic farming methods. The wine undergoes plot-by-plot fermentation in stainless steel, malolactic fermentation in concrete vats, and then ages for 18–20 months in 75–90% new French oak barrels.
Owned and managed by the Borie family since 1941, and led since 2003 by Bruno Borie, Ducru-Beaucaillou has been praised for its intense concentration, ripe tannins, supple textures, and purity of fruit. Characteristic aromas include black fruits, smoke, florals, and notes of cedar and tobacco. The wine's structure supports aging potential of 15–50 years from vintage.
