Fresh farmed whole Arctic char (Salvelinus alpinus) sold by the pound. Arctic char is a cold-water fish related to salmon and trout, prized for its delicate pink flesh, mild flavor, and light, flaky texture. It is milder and less fatty-tasting than salmon, making it an approachable choice for a wide range of preparations.
Arctic char is a nutrient-dense seafood, delivering approximately 19 grams of protein per 100-gram serving along with over 1,000 milligrams of omega-3 fatty acids (DHA and EPA) and 464 IUs of vitamin D. Farmed Arctic char is rated green by Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch program, making it one of the most environmentally sustainable fish available at retail.
The whole fish is suitable for all cooking methods โ bake, grill, broil, poach, steam, or pan-sear. Classic preparations include roasting whole with garlic, lemon, and olive oil wrapped in parchment, or seasoning fillets with citrus and honey for broiling. Refrigerate fresh and use within two days of purchase.
