Virna Barolo Cannubi DOCG is a prestigious Italian red wine produced by Virna Borgogno, a small family estate whose roots in the Cannubi vineyard of Piedmont trace back to 1720. Virna Borgogno established her own label in 2001, bringing with her a coveted 1.3-hectare parcel within the celebrated Cannubi cru, where 40-year-old Nebbiolo vines produce fruit of exceptional concentration and character.
Cannubi is widely regarded as the most prestigious single vineyard in Barolo, distinguished by its unique combination of Tortonian marl and chalky, iron-rich Helvetian soils. This dual-soil composition lends the wine remarkable complexity, balancing both the graceful and muscular expressions of Nebbiolo. The wine shows light tones of wild berry, blackcurrant, earth, spice, and licorice, with elegant aromas and a silky, refined texture characteristic of this storied terroir.
As a Barolo DOCG, this wine must be produced entirely from Nebbiolo grapes and aged for a minimum period as required by Italian law. Prior to the 2015 vintage, this wine was labeled as Virna Borgogno Cannubi Boschis. It is well-suited for pairing with braised meats, truffles, aged cheeses, and hearty Piedmontese cuisine, and has significant aging potential.
