Los Dominios de Berceo Prefiloxérico is a premium Tempranillo wine from Rioja, Spain, produced by Bodegas Berceo (part of Bodegas Manzanos). This exceptional wine is made from pre-phylloxera vines over 170 years old, planted on their own rootstock (pie franco) in the Baños de Ebro area of Rioja Alavesa. The sandy alluvial soil near the Ebro River protected these rare vines from the phylloxera epidemic that devastated most European vineyards in the 19th century.

The grapes are hand-harvested at night in small 12 kg boxes by specially selected winery staff. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks with daily pump-overs, followed by 6 to 8 months of aging in second-year French oak barrels and an additional 6 months in bottle before release. The wine has 13.5% alcohol, 5.2 g/l acidity, and less than 1 g/l residual sugar.

In the glass it presents a cherry red color with intense garnet hues, clean and bright. The nose offers ripe cherry and red fruit compote, cocoa, chocolate, nuts, vanilla, and cinnamon. On the palate it is dry and smooth with medium body, elegant toasty hints, great concentration, and a velvety, long, lingering finish.
