Aresca Barbera d'Asti DOCG Superiore "La Rossa" is a full-bodied Italian red wine made from 100% Barbera grapes sourced from the best south-facing vineyards in the Monferrato-Asti area of Piedmont. "La Rossa," meaning "the red one," is an Italian synonym for Barbera, evoking the grape's intense red color. The wine is produced by La Cantina Aresca, a winery founded in 1952 by brothers Luigi and Piero Aresca in Mombercelli, between Monferrato and Langhe.
The grapes are manually harvested and undergo temperature-controlled fermentation with maceration on the skins for 12 to 15 days. The wine then matures in wooden casks for 7 to 8 months, followed by an additional 6 months in bottle before release. It carries an alcohol content of 14% by volume.
On the nose, the wine is complex and intense with notes of cherry, currant, and chocolate. The palate is full-bodied and juicy with well-rounded tannins, featuring fresh and mature red fruit such as cherry and raspberry, finishing with an elegant touch of vanilla. It has earned 90 points from James Suckling. Ideal with stuffed pasta, red meat, roast, and aged cheese.
