Alonso López Crianza is a celebrated red wine from the Rioja DOCa appellation in northern Spain, produced by Bodegas Casado Morales in the village of La Puebla de Labarca. This wine is a blend of 90% Tempranillo and 10% Graciano sourced from two plots of ancient vines over 40 years old, grown at elevations between 430 and 580 meters in the Rioja Alavesa sub-region, where Mediterranean, Atlantic, and Continental climates converge to produce grapes of exceptional character.
Vinification begins with malolactic fermentation in cement vats using indigenous yeasts, followed by further fermentation in new French oak barrels over six months. The wine is then aged 14 months in new 225-liter French oak barrels and rests in bottle for at least 8 months before release. The result is a wine with bright, clean, full red color, explosive aromas of crushed raspberry, rosemary, violet, smoke, and coffee, with uncanny roundness on the palate leaving an impression of velvet red berries and minerals with an extremely long, magically fresh finish. Alcohol content is 14% by volume. Contains sulphites. Imported by Misa Imports, Dallas, Texas.
Rated 94 points by Wine Enthusiast (ranked #47 of the 100 Best Wines of the World), 90 points by James Suckling, and 90 points by Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. Best enjoyed with Iberico bellota ham, roasted lamb, beef wellington, fillet mignon, suckling pig, and other substantial dishes.
