Gerard Bertrand Clos d'Ora is a prestigious red blend from the AOP Minervois La Livinière appellation in Languedoc-Roussillon, France. This wine is crafted from a blend of Syrah, Grenache, Carignan, and Mourvèdre grapes grown on a nine-hectare biodynamic vineyard enclosed by dry stone walls at 220 meters altitude in La Livinière. The vineyard sits at the convergence of two distinct terroirs—Bartonian and Lutetian—composed of chalk, sandstone, and marl soils.
The vineyard is farmed using biodynamic methods with only horse traction for working between the rows. Grapes are entirely hand-picked, and each variety is macerated separately in unlined, thermoregulated precast concrete vats before spending time in French oak. Syrah is destalked before vatting, Grenache and Mourvèdre undergo gentle maceration to limit tannin extraction, and Carignan is whole-bunch vatted at higher temperatures for maximum aroma extraction.
Clos d'Ora presents a brilliant deep ruby color with intense aromas of black fruits, leather, pepper, nutmeg, violet, and peony. The palate reveals powerful yet elegant character with dark blackberry, black plum, dark earth, and subtle melted tannins, finishing with remarkable amplitude and length. At 15% ABV, this exceptional wine has great aging potential. Best served at 17°C after decanting for one hour.
