Midleton Very Rare Forêt de Tronçais is an extraordinarily rare, ultra-premium Irish whiskey bottled at 48% ABV and presented in an exclusively designed bottle and hand-crafted wooden cabinet. This Edition 1 release draws from a bespoke selection of single grain and single pot still whiskeys distilled at Midleton Distillery in Ireland, sourced from vintages spanning the 1980s to 2000s and initially matured in American bourbon barrels.
What sets this release apart is its secondary maturation — a three-year finish in T5 oak casks sourced directly from the legendary Forêt de Tronçais in central France. The T5 designation refers to a rare, fine-grained wood that is seasoned in the open air for a full five years before the barrels are assembled, imparting exceptionally delicate and complex flavors. The result is a whiskey of remarkable depth and elegance.
On the nose, it delivers oak-enriched perfumed aromas alongside poached pears, caramelized apples, orange zest, honeycomb, toasted hazelnuts, and freshly roasted coffee. The palate opens with fresh peppermint and sage weaving through succulent orchard fruits and zesty orange, while subtle tannins from the French oak complement notes of chocolate-dipped honeycomb and sweet vanilla. The finish is long and silken, characteristic of Midleton's pot still and grain whiskeys.
The wooden cabinet is handcrafted by Manufacture Jacquemin, a third-generation woodcrafts business based in the Jura Mountains of eastern France, and is fashioned from Tronçais forest oak — a fitting tribute to the casks that shaped the whiskey within.
