New Hokkaido Yamabiko Rice Lager is an extra-dry Japanese-style rice lager brewed by New Hokkaido Beverage Company at Mountains Walking Brewery in Bozeman, Montana. Founded by Gustav Gentaro Dose, New Hokkaido draws on Japanese brewing traditions fused with Montana craft beer culture, treating rice not as a filler but as a distinct canvas for flavor.
The Yamabiko is brewed with high-quality rice sourced from Hokkaido, Japan, as well as Montana, Cambodia, and other premium origins, and is hopped with New Zealand Kohia Nelson hops. It delivers a crisp, light, and refreshing profile with subtle notes of stone fruit. At 5% ABV and 13 IBUs, it is designed as an approachable, ultra-clean lager suited to a wide range of occasions.
The beer is named after Yamabiko, floppy-eared, dog-like yōkai from Japanese folklore said to inhabit mountain peaks and be the source of mountain echoes. Each can features original artwork designed by Sally Morrow Creative of Portland and Emil Homewood of Tokyo. Sold in 4-pack 16 oz cans.
