High West Distillery's Charred Cask Strength Whiskey Blend is a limited-release American whiskey bottled at 58.5% ABV (117 proof) directly from the barrel, with no water addition or chill filtration. Produced by Park City, Utah-based High West Distillery, this small-batch expression is a blend of five straight bourbon whiskeys aged between 6 and 20 years, sourced from distilleries in Kentucky, Indiana, and Tennessee, then finished in new, charred American white oak barrels that impart added depth and signature wood character.
The Indiana component contributes a 21% rye mash bill for spice, while the Tennessee and Kentucky components provide a corn and malted barley foundation. On the nose, the whiskey opens with butter-poached green apples, honey-drizzled cornbread, light caramel, and warm baking spices. The palate delivers sweet plantains, dried apricots, Earl Grey Creme tea, brown sugar, rich cola, and anise, supported by an earthy, full-bodied structure. The finish is long and warming, with kumquat, white chocolate, rock candy, aged wood, and a subtle peppery heat.
Crafted in High West's tradition of expert blending — a philosophy pioneered by distillery founder David Perkins — this bottling is non-chill filtered and released at cask strength, preserving the full flavor and texture of its component barrels. It is well suited for whiskey drinkers who appreciate bold, complex, high-proof expressions.
