Cathiard Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is a prestigious Napa Valley wine from the estate owned by Florence and Daniel Cathiard, the proprietors of Château Smith Haut Lafitte in Bordeaux. This flagship wine is produced from family-owned vineyards situated in the foothills of the Mayacamas Mountains, where vintners have cultivated the land for more than a century since Scottish brothers James and William Rennie first planted vines in 1885.
The wine is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from the estate's most coveted hillside vines at elevations up to 1,000 feet. It expresses the quintessence of this singular terroir with notes of blackcurrants, dark plums, black cherries, cassis, mint, sage, Valrhona chocolate, tobacco, and cedar. The mouthfeel is dense but delicate with remarkable energy and finesse, featuring silky texture and remarkably integrated tannins throughout a long finish.
This organically farmed wine reflects the Cathiard family's philosophy of minimal intervention winemaking with ridiculously low yields to guarantee a strong sense of place. The estate spans 250 acres with 58 planted to vine across 14 blocks in the St. Helena and Rutherford appellations. The 2020 vintage earned exceptional critical acclaim including 97 points from James Suckling, 97 points from Wine Enthusiast, 96 points from Decanter, and 94 points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.
