Château Haut-Brion 2021 is a prestigious First Growth Bordeaux from the historic Pessac-Léognan appellation. This legendary estate, with winemaking origins dating to 1521, was the only property outside the Médoc to receive First Growth classification in 1855. The 2021 vintage features a blend of 50.3% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 11.7% Cabernet Franc, aged in 73% new French oak barrels.
The wine presents an extravagant bouquet of blackberry, black truffle, undergrowth, and menthol aromas. On the palate, it delivers a full-bodied, harmonious experience with fine-grained tannins and excellent balance. At 13.8% alcohol, this vintage is almost a full degree lower than recent years, contributing to its elegant, refined character. Critics have praised it as a contender for wine of the vintage, awarding scores of 95-98 points across major publications.
The estate's distinctive terroir features deep gravel deposits up to 18 meters over clay and sand, located just 5 kilometers from Bordeaux city center. Under the direction of winemaker Jean-Philippe Delmas, Haut-Brion continues to produce wines of exceptional refinement and aging potential. Recommended drinking window: 2030-2055. Pairs excellently with veal, beef, lamb, duck, game, and Asian cuisine.
