Château L'Evangile is one of the most prestigious estates in the Pomerol appellation of Bordeaux, France, with a storied history dating back to 1687. The property was originally known as Domaine de Fazilleau before being renamed Château L'Evangile in 1862 by Jean-Paul Chaperon, who also commissioned the construction of the château in 1874. The estate has risen to become widely regarded as among the finest wines produced in Pomerol, one of Bordeaux's most celebrated sub-regions. Since 1990, Château L'Evangile has been owned by Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite).
The 2021 vintage is a red Bordeaux blend composed of 69% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon. This vintage marked a significant turning point for the estate, as Château L'Evangile transitioned to biodynamic farming practices — a holistic approach that nurtures the entire farm ecosystem. Combined with an early spring frost and challenging weather conditions that year, the result was notably lower yields of just 2,000 to 3,000 cases produced worldwide, making this one of the rarest wines available through Costco.
The wine delivers complex aromas of black cherry, chocolate, and violets, with layered hints of nutmeg and hazelnuts. On the palate it opens to a medium to full body with fine, polished tannins. Offered as a single 750ml bottle.
