Urbain V Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a classic Southern Rhône red wine from the prestigious Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation in France, produced by Vignobles & Compagnie. Crafted from the traditional GSM blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre, this 750ml wine carries a robust 14% ABV. The label name pays homage to Pope Urban V (Urbain V in French), reflecting the appellation's historic ties to the Avignon papacy of the 14th century — Châteauneuf-du-Pape translates literally to "New Castle of the Pope."
The wine presents a brilliant, deep purple-red color in the glass. On the nose it opens with intense aromas of red fruits and truffle. The palate is full-bodied and generous, revealing a soft yet powerful mouthfeel with a long, persistent finish. A 2022 vintage was reviewed by James Suckling, described as "well-rounded, juicy and fruity" with notes of cherries and stones.
Best served between 12°C and 15°C (54°F–59°F), this wine pairs beautifully with red meats and aged cheeses. Sold at Costco in cases of 12 × 750ml bottles.
