Altos de Valdoso Crianza is a Spanish red wine from the Denominación de Origen Ribera del Duero, produced by Grupo Bodegas Olarra. Made from 100% Tempranillo (Tinta del País) grapes sourced from vineyards at approximately 1,000 meters elevation in Castilla y León, the wine reflects the altitude and terroir of the Duero River basin spanning the provinces of Valladolid, Burgos, Segovia, and Soria.
The wine undergoes a 15-day maceration and fermentation process followed by malolactic fermentation in concrete tanks. It is then aged for 14 months in American and French oak barrels averaging 2 years old, and refined in bottle for an additional 12 months before release. This extended aging process qualifies it for the Crianza classification under Spanish wine law.
The wine presents an intense bright ruby color. On the nose it is structured and aromatic, combining ripe red and dark fruits with notes of spice and cedar. The palate is weighty and elegant, delivering ripe plum and licorice alongside complex oak-derived aromas, and finishing long and fresh. Alcohol content is 14.5% by volume. It received 94 points and Editors' Choice recognition from Wine Enthusiast, with a retail value typically around $35.
Pairs beautifully with grilled and roasted red meats, aged cheeses, and richly spiced dishes.
