Barramundi (Lates calcarifer), also known as Asian sea bass, is a sustainably ocean-farmed white fish prized for its mild, buttery flavor and tender, flaky texture. This Kirkland Signature fillet is farm-raised by Australis Aquaculture in offshore pens in Vietnam, where fish are raised at low densities on a nutritionally balanced diet and hand-filleted and flash-frozen within hours of harvest to preserve peak freshness. Sold by the pound, each fillet is individually vacuum-sealed, boneless, and skinless.
Barramundi cooks rapidly in a skillet, oven, or on the grill, holding together well while remaining fork-tender throughout. Its neutral, clean flavor profile makes it exceptionally versatile for a wide range of preparations, from blackened to pan-seared. The fillets may vary in thickness, so monitor cooking time accordingly.
Barramundi contains the highest omega-3 fatty acids of any white fish and is guaranteed contaminant-free, with no detectable levels of mercury, PCBs, antibiotics, hormones, or colorants. Australis Aquaculture holds Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) 4-Star Certification, is ASC-certified, and is the world's first Fair Trade-certified barramundi producer. To thaw safely, remove fish from its vacuum-sealed pouch and thaw uncovered in the refrigerator overnight before cooking.
