Ca' dei Frati Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG "Pietro dal Cero" is a prestigious Italian red wine from the Valpolicella region near Verona. This special release is dedicated to Pietro Dal Cero, the father of the winemakers at the renowned Ca' dei Frati estate. The wine is crafted from hand-picked grapes from the Luxinum vineyard in Pian di Castagnè, using a blend of 70% Corvina Veronese, 20% Corvinone Veronese, 5% Rondinella, and 5% Croatina.

The wine undergoes traditional Amarone production methods where grapes are dried for several months before pressing, concentrating sugars and intensifying flavors. Following fermentation, it ages for 24 months in French oak barriques, 12 months in stainless steel, and an additional 24 months in bottle before release. The wine presents a dark ruby color with amethyst shades, offering aromas of black cherry, chocolate, sweet spices, cocoa, and peppery notes on the nose.

On the palate, expect fresh, vibrant acidity with great depth of fruit, featuring sour cherries, touches of chewing tobacco, and hints of old balsamic vinegar. The finish offers great, slightly bitter spice with a touch of grassiness. At 16% alcohol, this distinctive Amarone is fresher than typical examples of the style while retaining requisite intensity. The wine pairs excellently with slow-cooked meat stews, ragù alla napoletana, and cheeses, especially pecorino with peppercorns. With its freshness and high alcohol content, this wine has excellent aging potential for decades.
