Château Les Ormes de Pez is a historic Cru Bourgeois estate in the Saint-Estèphe appellation of the northern Médoc, Bordeaux, France. Owned and managed by the Cazes family — also proprietors of the acclaimed Château Lynch-Bages in Pauillac — the estate has undergone significant refinement since 1940, emphasizing purity, clarity of style, and minimal intervention in both viticulture and winemaking. The vines average over 35 years of age and grow on approximately 35 hectares of magnificent gravelly soils over a clay-cool subsoil, providing excellent heat retention and moisture control.
This red blend is composed of 54% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 4% Petit Verdot. The wine is aged in French oak barrels, with a proportion of new oak, which preserves its fresh, vibrant fruit character while developing the powerful, structured backbone characteristic of Saint-Estèphe. On the nose it presents high-toned aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant, damp earth, and tobacco leaf, with notes of perfumed cedar, woodsmoke, and classic gravelly minerality. On the palate it is full-bodied with firm, integrated tannins and a complex, long finish — approachable in youth yet built for aging.
Awarded 94 points by Wine Enthusiast. ABV 13%. Contains sulphites. Pairs beautifully with ribeye steak, lamb, duck confit, mushroom risotto, hearty pasta, root vegetables, and aged hard cheeses.
