Rockmere Cabernet Sauvignon is a small-production, estate-grown red wine from the Stags Leap District of Napa Valley, crafted by winemaker Jeff Ames. The vineyard sits at 4130 Silverado Trail on a 6-acre property featuring distinctive rocky alluvial volcanic soils and excellent drainage, with cooler growing conditions typical of the southern valley. Plantings consist primarily of Cabernet Sauvignon clones 337 and 15, with a small block of Cabernet Franc.
The wine is aged in French oak barrels from Taransaud and Darnajou cooperages for 20 to 28 months depending on the vintage. It typically displays aromas of blackberry, plum, boysenberry, and mulberry alongside notes of tobacco, cedar, sage, chocolate, and dark spice. On the palate it delivers dark fruit flavors with savory characteristics, finishing with fine-grained, persistent tannins and hints of crushed pepper and smoked sage. Annual production ranges from 600 to 800 cases, making this an exceptionally limited offering for Costco members. The winery was founded by Chet Pinckernell and is named after Rockmere Court in Bethesda, Maryland, where he grew up.
