DAOU Pessimist Red Blend is a bold, expressive wine from Paso Robles, California, crafted by DAOU Family Estates. This 375ml half-bottle showcases the winery's signature Pessimist style — a powerful, deeply aromatic red blend built around Petite Sirah, Zinfandel, Syrah, and Lagrein.
The wine opens with intense aromas of blueberry, boysenberry, and black plum, with secondary layers of elderberry, truffle, cocoa, and cardamom spice, accented by hints of eucalyptus, leather, cherry pipe tobacco, and grilled meats. On the palate, it is broad and expansive with lush flavors of black cherry, blueberry, crème de cassis, and damp forest floor, complemented by lavender, anise, and black olive. The 2021 vintage is composed of 76% Petite Sirah, 12% Zinfandel, 10% Syrah, and 2% Lagrein, aged 10 months in 50% new French oak, with 14.9% alcohol by volume. It earned 93 points and an Editor's Choice designation from Wine Enthusiast.
Massive in weight yet elegantly structured, this wine finishes smoothly with notes of blackberry, espresso bean, and pomegranate. The 375ml half-bottle format makes it an excellent choice for individual enjoyment or pairing with hearty dishes.
