Meerlust Rubicon is the flagship wine of Meerlust Estate, one of South Africa's most celebrated and historic wine farms located in Stellenbosch, Western Cape. First released in 1980, Rubicon played a pivotal role in establishing the international reputation of South African fine wine and remains one of the country's most iconic red blends.

This Bordeaux-style blend is typically composed of approximately 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, and 4% Petit Verdot, though exact percentages vary by vintage. Each varietal component is fermented separately before the wine is aged in 300-liter French oak barrels for 18 months through a two-stage process — eight months before blending and ten months after — developing remarkable complexity and structure.

The wine presents a deep garnet color with aromas of blackcurrant, cigar box, dark cherry, cedar, and subtle chocolate. On the palate it is full-bodied and velvety, with well-integrated tannins, flavors of dark berries and cedar, and a long, elegant finish. Rubicon is an excellent candidate for cellaring and rewards patience, expressing greater nuance and depth with additional bottle age.
