Château Pavie 2021 is an exceptional Saint-Émilion Grand Cru wine from one of only four estates holding the prestigious Premier Grand Cru Classé "A" classification. Owned by Chantal and Gérard Perse since 1998, this celebrated Bordeaux estate is renowned for its magnificent 37-hectare single-block vineyard situated on the southeast slopes of the Saint-Émilion hillside, with over 80 meters of altitude variation creating a multitude of micro-terroirs.
The 2021 vintage is a blend of 52% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, and 18% Cabernet Sauvignon, with vines averaging 33 years of age. The wine was manually harvested between September 28th and October 12th, vinified in temperature-controlled wooden vats, with malolactic fermentation and aging in 75% new oak barrels. It reaches 14.5% alcohol.
Tasting notes reveal a saturated ruby-purple hue with powerful aromatics of cassis, toasted spice, chalky minerality, graphite, and hints of truffly earth. The palate is rich, medium to full-bodied, concentrated, and incredibly textured with velvety tannins, no hard edges, and a gorgeous finish. The wine has received outstanding ratings including 97 points from James Suckling, 96 points from Antonio Galloni (Vinous), 96 points from Jeb Dunnuck, and 94 points from Wine Spectator. Best enjoyed from 2025 through 2040, with aging potential of 20-25 years when well stored. Contains sulphites.
