Château La Conseillante is a legendary Pomerol estate on Bordeaux's Right Bank, owned by the Nicolas family since 1871. The 2021 vintage marks the estate's 150th year of production and is regarded as one of the finest expressions of this celebrated property.
The estate's 13 hectares of vineyards sit on a plateau in eastern Pomerol, bordering L'Évangile, Petit-Village, Vieux Château-Certan, and Cheval Blanc. Vines average 35 years of age and are planted on grey clay and sandy gravel soils. The 2021 blend is 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, harvested late (September 28 – October 8) at 39 hL/ha and matured in 70% new oak barrels. Alcohol is 13.3% with a pH of 3.6. Winemaker Marielle Cazaux oversaw production.
The bouquet offers blackberry, bilberry, light iris petal, and hints of black truffle. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied with fine tannins, lightly spiced red fruit, a subtle ferrous note, lovely depth and grip on the finish, and a persistent aftertaste. Critics awarded scores ranging from 93–97 points across Vinous Media, Wine Advocate, and other major publications, with James Suckling awarding 96 points.
