Château Haut-Bailly 2021 is a prestigious Bordeaux red wine from the Pessac-Léognan appellation. This vintage is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot, and 3% Cabernet Franc, representing the highest percentage of Petit Verdot in the estate's history. The 2021 vintage is the first produced in Haut-Bailly's newly inaugurated state-of-the-art cellars, completed at the end of 2020.
The wine displays complex aromas of blackcurrant, dark berries, wild plums, sweet spices, loamy soil, raw cocoa, and violets. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with lively, muscular character, a dense core of fruit, tangy acids, and powdery yet integrated tannins. Tasting notes describe hints of graphite, dark mushrooms, smoke, and forest floor, with a silky, refined finish.
This wine has earned exceptional ratings from leading critics: 97 points from James Suckling, 97 points from Wine Enthusiast, 96 points from Vinous, 95 points from Decanter, and 94 points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. Château Haut-Bailly is renowned as one of Bordeaux's most elegant estates, with vineyards planted on gravel, sand, and clay soils in the heart of Pessac-Léognan. Some vines are over 120 years old. The wine was harvested September 27 to October 11 and matured in 50% new French oak. Best enjoyed from 2026-2055 after decanting.
