Château Cantenac Brown 2021 is a 3ème Grand Cru Classé (Third Growth) red wine from the Margaux appellation of Bordeaux, France. The estate's iconic Tudor-style château, designed in the early 19th century by Scottish painter John Lewis Brown, anchors 62.5 hectares of deep gravel, sand, and limestone soils that produce wines of distinctive elegance and structure.
The 2021 vintage blend is 73% Cabernet Sauvignon and 27% Merlot. Technical Director José Sanfins and his team harvested the Cabernet Sauvignon between October 4th and 12th, employing saignée of the Merlots, light chaptalization of the Cabernets, and longer but gentler extractions to preserve aromatic purity. Just over half of the estate's production went into this grand vin, which was subsequently aged in French oak barrels to add texture while maintaining balance.
The bouquet reveals red currant, blackberry, violet, and subtle cedar notes along with cassis, wild berries, tobacco, incense, and cigar box. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, layered, and seamless with good concentration, lively acidity, and a nicely defined finish. The 2021 growing season, which favored finesse over power, translated into a Margaux of elegance and composure with vibrant aromatics and a long aging trajectory. Critics scored this wine 94 points by both Robert Parker's Wine Advocate and Vinous, and 93 points by Wine Spectator, with a recommended drinking window of 2031–2061.
