Le Dragon de Quintus is the second wine of Château Quintus, an estate in the prestigious Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation of Bordeaux, France. Château Quintus was created from the union of Château Tertre Daugay and Château L'Arrosée, both acquired by Domaine Clarence Dillon — the same distinguished family company behind Châteaux Haut-Brion and La Mission Haut-Brion. This 750ml bottle presents the 2021 vintage of this highly regarded Bordeaux red.
The 2021 vintage is a blend of 82.7% Merlot, 14.5% Cabernet Franc, and 2.8% Malbec, drawn from the estate's 42-hectare vineyard planted on a limestone plateau and clay-limestone soils with vines averaging 30 years of age. Vinified at low temperature to encourage gentle extraction, the wine was aged in barrels with 30% new oak. It presents a beautiful deep ruby hue, with a nose of pomegranate and fruity-floral fragrances. The palate opens with a soft, slightly woody attack leading to a persistent finish with delectable tannins and intense red fruit character. Alcohol: 13.5%. Contains sulphites.
The 2021 Dragon de Quintus earned 90 points from Robert Parker, 91–92 points from James Suckling, 16/20 from Jancis Robinson, and 90–92 from Vinous. Pairs beautifully with beef, lamb, poultry, and game.
