Guillaume Gonnet Bel Ami Châteauneuf du Pape Rouge is a prestigious red wine from the renowned Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation in the Southern Rhône Valley of France, presented in an impressive 3-liter double magnum format. Produced by winemaker Guillaume Gonnet from the Croix du Bois vineyard, the wine is crafted from old vines aged 50 to 90 years planted at 2,500 vines per hectare on south-east facing slopes with characteristic round pebbles, sand, clay, and limestone soils.
The blend is composed of 70% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre, and 10% Cinsault, all hand-harvested in accordance with AOC regulations. Vinification is traditional, with 20 to 30 days of fermentation and maceration using natural yeasts, followed by aging across a combination of pyramid-shaped concrete vats, wooden vats, stainless steel tanks, and 600-liter demi-muid barrels. Malolactic fermentation is carried out and residual sugar is kept below 2 grams per litre.
This elegant wine offers soft, round tannins with a red and black fruit bouquet of cherries and blackberries, along with hints of garrigue, Christmas cake, and peppery spice. It is best decanted at least one hour before serving and has a cellaring potential of 10 to 15 years. The wine pairs beautifully with Provençal daube, coq au vin, duck magret, charcuterie, and aged cheeses such as comté and beaufort. Alcohol content is 14.5%. Contains sulfites.
