Doña Paula Selección de Bodega Malbec is a premium Argentine red wine sourced from the Alluvia vineyard in Gualtallary, Uco Valley, Mendoza, at 1,350 meters above sea level. Established in 1997, Doña Paula is an estate winery that crafts its wines exclusively from estate-grown fruit in some of Argentina's finest growing regions. This 3-liter format offers exceptional value for entertaining and everyday enjoyment.
The Selección de Bodega Malbec comes from head-pruned vines growing in one of Argentina's most distinctive terroirs: alluvial soils composed of medium-size rocks coated with calcium carbonate, intermingled with sand and chalk enamel. The soil's near-zero organic matter and excellent drainage force the vines to develop deep roots, concentrating flavor in the fruit. Grapes are hand-harvested in 20-kilogram plastic boxes from late March through early April. Winemaking begins with a cold pre-fermentative maceration to preserve primary aromas, followed by alcoholic fermentation using native yeasts at low temperatures. The wine is then aged in 50% new French oak barrels for 20 months, developing complexity and structure.
The wine displays a deep violet color with aromas of berries, graphite, black cherries, and spice. On the palate it shows great concentration, firm tannins, fresh acidity, and a long finish. It has earned scores of 97 points from Descorchados, 95 points from Tim Atkin MW, 93 points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, and a Trophy at the International Wine Challenge. Best served at 57–64°F, it pairs well with grilled red meats, veal ribs, hearty stews, and aged cheeses, with a cellaring potential of up to 15 years.
