This is a 1.5-liter magnum of Château Gloria, a celebrated red Bordeaux wine from the Saint-Julien appellation in the Médoc region of France. Established by Henri Martin in the 1940s, Château Gloria is widely regarded as producing wines on par with the 1855 Classified Growths of the region, offering exceptional value relative to its quality. The estate was built through the patient acquisition of parcels from classified Saint-Julien properties, and is now managed by the Martin family.
The wine is a classic left-bank Bordeaux blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Petit Verdot. It is medium to full-bodied with rich black fruit character — cassis, blackberry, blueberry, and blackcurrant — complemented by notes of tobacco, leafy herbs, and polished, elegant tannins leading to a long, dry finish. The 2019 vintage was awarded 94 points by Wine Spectator. Alcohol by volume is 14%.
The 1.5-liter magnum format allows for slower, more graceful aging than a standard 750ml bottle, making this an excellent candidate for the cellar. The wine benefits from decanting and additional bottle age, with a recommended cellaring window of five to twenty years from the vintage year.
