Frederick Legrand Sancerre is a 100% Sauvignon Blanc white wine from the prestigious Sancerre AOC in France's Upper Loire Valley. Presented in a heavy 750ml bottle (637g), it represents one of the more complex Sancerre offerings available at Costco, earning a community average of 89.7 points on CellarTracker with individual scores as high as 93 points.
The wine pours a light straw color and opens with an aromatic nose of paraffin wax, yellow apple, fresh lime, and a distinctive salty seashell quality. On the palate it is clean and linear, driven by racy acidity that takes center stage alongside melon, mineral salinity, and a notably lengthy finish. The tartness and saline character are hallmarks of the Sancerre style, with the fruit playing a supporting role to the wine's structural elements.
Sancerre wines are crafted from Sauvignon Blanc grapes grown on the Kimmeridgian limestone soils of the Upper Loire, the same ancient seafloor geology found beneath Chablis and parts of Champagne. These soils impart a distinctive flinty, mineral character to the wine along with bracing acidity. Sancerre received its AOC designation in 1936 and remains one of France's most celebrated white wine appellations. This wine pairs beautifully with oysters, goat cheese, grilled fish, and light poultry dishes.
