Guillaume Gonnet Bel Ami Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge is a Southern Rhône red wine blend composed of 70% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre, and 10% Cinsault. The grapes are sourced from the Croix du Bois vineyard, featuring vines aged 50 to 90 years old planted in round pebble, sand, clay, and limestone soils with a southeast-facing exposition. This 3-liter format is equivalent to four standard 750ml bottles.
The wine is hand-harvested and vinified traditionally in concrete vats, stainless steel tanks, and wood vats, with 60% to 100% of stems removed and natural yeast fermentation over 20 to 30 days. Aging takes place in a combination of pyramid-shaped concrete vats (30%), wooden vats (30%), stainless steel (30%), and 600-liter demi-muids (10%). Malolactic fermentation is completed, with residual sugar under 2 grams per liter and 14.5% alcohol by volume.
The wine offers soft, round tannins with an elegant profile. The bouquet features red and black fruit notes of cherries and blackberries, along with hints of garrigue, Christmas cake, and peppery spice. It pairs well with Provençal daube, coq au vin, duck magret, charcuterie, and aged cheeses such as Comté and Beaufort. Cellaring potential is 10 to 15 years, and decanting at least one hour before serving is recommended.
