Château Beau-Séjour Bécot is a Premier Grand Cru Classé B from Saint-Émilion, one of Bordeaux's most prestigious wine regions. This estate, owned by the Bécot family since 1969, is situated on the limestone plateau of Saint-Martin de Mazerat, immediately west of the historic town of Saint-Émilion. The vineyard extends over 16.5 hectares with deep clay-limestone soils and ancient underground limestone quarries.
The wine is crafted from a blend of primarily Merlot (76-85%) with Cabernet Franc (13-22%) and a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon (2%). The estate employs modern winemaking techniques including whole berry fermentation, aging in 50-55% new French oak barrels, with portions aged in clay amphora jars and oak foudres for approximately 16-18 months. This approach creates wines with silky textures, mineral-driven purity, and elegant fruit expression.
Tasting notes describe intense floral characteristics coupled with sweet ripe red cherries, licorice, black raspberries, cocoa, and crushed stones. The wine offers remarkable depth and complexity with velvet tannins and a long, refined finish. The 2022 vintage received a perfect 100-point score, marking the best wine ever produced at the estate. Best vintages include 2023, 2022, 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2016, 2015, 2010, 2009, and 2005.
The estate produces approximately 5,000 cases annually of the Grand Vin, along with a second wine called Petit Bécot (formerly Tournelle de Beau-Séjour Bécot), which is the product referenced in this listing. Château Beau-Séjour Bécot is best served at 15.5 degrees Celsius and pairs excellently with classic meat dishes, game, roasted chicken, hearty fish like tuna, mushrooms, pasta, and cheese. The wine benefits from 10-15 years of aging in good vintages and can be decanted for 2-3 hours to soften and open its perfume.
