Château Tour Maillet is a celebrated estate from the prestigious Pomerol appellation in Bordeaux, France, producing a 100% Merlot red wine from a 2.2-hectare vineyard in the Lieu-dit Maillet. The vines average 35 years of age and are planted in siliceous-gravelly soils that lend the wine its characteristic structure and finesse. Château Tour Maillet is produced by Vignobles Lagardère.
Grapes are harvested by hand with meticulous selective sorting at peak ripeness. Vinification begins with a cold pre-fermentation maceration at 6°C for four days to preserve aromatic freshness, followed by 28 days of vatting for deep extraction of color, tannin, and flavor. The wine is then aged for 12 months in French oak barrels — 50% new and 50% one-year-old — adding complexity and structure while preserving the purity of the Merlot fruit.
The wine offers aromas of ripe black cherry, plum, violet, and spice, with a velvety, full-bodied palate showing cassis, mocha, and cocoa notes carried by polished, well-integrated tannins and a long, elegant finish. It has earned consistent critical acclaim across multiple vintages, including scores of 91–96 from James Suckling, 91–95 from Jeb Dunnuck, 92–93 from Decanter, and multiple Guide Hachette des Vins star distinctions. Recommended serving temperature is 17°C; the wine can be enjoyed upon release or cellared for 15 to 20 years. It pairs beautifully with grilled beef, venison, and lamb chops.
