Scarecrow is one of Napa Valley's most coveted cult Cabernet Sauvignons, sourced exclusively from the historic J.J. Cohn Estate on the western edge of Rutherford, nestled against the Mayacamas range. The property traces its roots to 1942, when Hollywood mogul Joseph Judson Cohn—one of the founding architects of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer—purchased the land as a family retreat. His grandson, Bret Lopez, created the Scarecrow label and partnered with neighbor Francis Ford Coppola (of Inglenook) to preserve the estate. Celebrated winemaker Celia Welch crafts this wine from old-vine Cabernet Sauvignon propagated from the estate's own "Cohn clone" budwood, farmed by Mike Wolf on approximately 10 hectares. The first vintage was released in 2006 (from the 2003 harvest).

The 2019 vintage arrives in classic Scarecrow form: intensely concentrated and layered, with aromatics of dark cherry, crème de cassis, blackcurrant, graphite, mocha, toasted spice, and earthy Rutherford dust. On the palate, the wine offers full-bodied richness supported by silky, structured tannins, impeccable balance, and a long, complex finish. The 2019 vintage received outstanding critical scores—in the 97–100 point range from Wine Advocate, Jeb Dunnuck, and Wine Spectator—and is built for decades of graceful aging.

This release is presented as a single 1.5L Magnum in an Original Wooden Case (OWC), making it an exceptional collector's acquisition or prestige gift. Best enjoyed from 2025 through 2045 and beyond.
