Scarecrow 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is a benchmark Napa Valley red wine sourced from the historic J.J. Cohn Estate in Rutherford, featuring 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from two acres of old vines planted in 1945 by John Daniel and dry farmed to this day. This 1.5L Magnum format was crafted by longtime winemaker Celia Welch, with approximately 2,000 cases produced and released in spring 2019.
The 2016 vintage received perfect 100-point scores from both Wine Advocate (Lisa Perrotti-Brown) and Jeb Dunnuck, along with 98+ points from Antonio Galloni of Vinous. Deep garnet-purple in color, the wine opens with notions of violets, lavender, Black Forest cake, mulberries, tobacco leaf, and fragrant earth, with a core of warm cassis, kirsch, Chinese five spice, rose hip tea, and cedar chest. The palate is full-bodied and super concentrated, possessing great energy with vibrant red and black fruits and loads of mineral accents, framed by very ripe, super fine-grained tannins and fantastic freshness. The finish is exceptionally long and perfumed. Drinking window: 2021โ2050.
The J.J. Cohn Estate vineyard borders what was once the legendary Inglenook vineyard of winemaker Gustave Niebaum, cementing Scarecrow's place among Napa Valley's most historically significant and critically acclaimed estates.
