MìLà Chocolate Black Sesame Lava Soup Dumplings are a decadent dessert twist on the brand's beloved frozen soup dumplings, sold at Costco as a multi-variety 34 oz package combining chocolate and black sesame lava varieties. Inspired by molten lava cake and the classic Chinese dessert tang yuan, each piece features a chewy dumpling wrapper encasing a rich, gooey lava filling made with dairy-free oat milk chocolate from Pockets Chocolate and nutty black sesame paste.
This dessert dumpling was created in collaboration with James Beard Award-winning pastry chef Dominique Ansel, the inventor of the Cronut, who drew on the beloved flavors of Chinese black sesame desserts and fused them with the luxurious richness of French chocolate. The result is a bite-sized treat roughly the size of a quarter, with a filling that flows like a molten lava cake when steamed properly. The dough wrapper is soft and chewy without being heavy, striking the ideal balance between structure and delicacy.
To prepare, steam in a lined bamboo steamer for 8 minutes, then rest with the lid on for 1 additional minute before serving. Excellent served warm on their own or alongside a scoop of vanilla ice cream and freshly whipped cream. Each 13.2 oz unit contains approximately 25 pieces. Made in the USA by MìLà, formerly known as Xiao Chi Jie, a brand founded in 2018 by Jen Liao and Caleb Wang.
