Cellier aux Moines Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru "Les Pucelles" is an exceptional white Burgundy from one of France's most historic wine estates. Domaine du Cellier aux Moines was founded in 1130 by Cistercian monks of the Abbey of La Ferté in Givry and is classified as a Monument Historique. Today, the estate is led by Philippe Pascal, former CEO of Veuve Clicquot, and his family, who have revitalized the property with an unwavering commitment to biodynamic viticulture.
Les Pucelles is one of Puligny-Montrachet's most esteemed Premier Cru vineyards, bordering the Grand Cru Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet. The Cellier aux Moines parcel is a tiny south-east-facing plot of just 27 ares (0.27 hectares), planted with approximately 52-year-old Chardonnay vines at 205–207 meters altitude on very fine clay-limestone soils. The vineyard has been farmed biodynamically since 2017, achieving full organic certification with the 2020 vintage. Costco sells this wine as a 6-bottle case (6 x 750ml).
On the palate this wine is delicate yet full-bodied, revealing notes of white and yellow fruit with gripping minerality, lovely firmness, and a refined texture. Graphite and gun-flint aromas, crisp acidity, and a long, austere finish are hallmarks of every cuvée. The 2022 vintage earned 95 points from James Suckling and 91 points from Wine Spectator. Alcohol: 13.5% ABV. Contains sulphites.
