Chateau Angelus "Hommage a Elisabeth Bouchet" is an extraordinarily rare and prestigious Saint-Emilion Grand Cru from Bordeaux, France, produced exclusively from 100% Cabernet Franc — a grape variety historically known in the region as "Bouchet." First introduced with the 2016 vintage, this wine is made only in the finest vintages for Cabernet Franc expression.
The wine originates from a single 0.5-hectare parcel in the historic heart of Chateau Angelus, positioned at the base of the Saint-Emilion slopes. The vines range from 65 to 100+ years in age, grown in yellow clay and limestone soils over blue clay, with a southwest-facing exposure that ensures exceptional ripeness. Production is extremely limited, yielding approximately 1,200 numbered bottles per vintage, presented in individual wooden cases.
The wine ages for 22 months before bottling, with oak aging that varies by vintage — historically ranging from 100% new French oak barrels (2016) to 100% large foudres (2022). The result is a wine of exceptional purity, depth, and elegance, with layers of dark berries, floral notes, graphite, and spice.
Named in honor of Elisabeth Bouchet, the great-grandmother of current proprietor Stephanie de Bouard, who married Maurice de Bouard de Laforest in 1921 and played a pivotal role in shaping the estate's future — including encouraging the purchase of the Clos de l'Angelus and the extensive replanting of Cabernet Franc across the property.
