Cellier aux Moines Les Charmelottes Montagny 1er Cru is a distinguished white Burgundy produced by Domaine du Cellier aux Moines, a historic estate in the Côte Chalonnaise region of Burgundy, France. The domain traces its origins to Cistercian monks and was revitalized in 2004 with a renewed focus on quality and organic viticulture. This wine is crafted entirely from 100% Chardonnay sourced from the Les Charmelottes vineyard — a high-altitude, south-southwest facing site with old vines (Vieilles Vignes) planted in 1939.

The vineyard sits on marl soils over white limestone, imparting a pronounced mineral character. Grapes are grown organically and the wine undergoes extended sur-lie aging with subtle barrel influence, resulting in a complex, layered profile at 14% ABV.

In the glass, the wine pours pale lemon yellow. The nose is enveloping, offering orange blossom, perfectly ripe oranges, flint, and oyster shell, with undertones of fresh pineapple from the lees aging. On the palate it is expansive yet energetic, with a concentration and richness that rivals wines from the more celebrated Côte d'Or. A touch of sandalwood from barrel aging adds depth, while the finish is very long and defined by stunning mineral freshness.
