Benmar Springbok Pinot Noir is a small-production Oregon wine from the Yamhill-Carlton AVA, a distinguished sub-appellation of the Willamette Valley known for producing robust and structured Pinot Noirs. Benmar is an artisan winery founded by Greg Bybee, crafting wines through low-intervention methods at Dominio IV in the Willamette Valley. The name "Benmar" is derived from Greg's two children, Bennett and Marecca. The "Springbok" label represents Benmar's second-tier release, sourced primarily from the Hirschy Vineyard in the Yamhill-Carlton district.
This 2022 vintage presents a pale ruby color with aromas of spice mingled with red and dark fruit. On the palate it is medium-bodied with good acidity and flavors of pomegranate, blackberry, black cherry, and plum, finishing with notes of mocha and vanilla in a dry, lasting close. Only 300 cases were produced, making this a highly limited bottling. Alcohol content is 13.5% by volume.
This wine pairs well with roasted duck, beef Bourguignon, pork tenderloin, lamb chops, and seared scallops.
