Lilac & Hydrangea Bareroot Shrubs 2-Pack

This 2-pack of bareroot flowering shrubs includes both lilac and hydrangea plants, shipped in their dormant state for spring planting. Bareroot plants are shipped without soil, allowing the roots to establish more easily when planted in early to mid-spring. These flowering shrubs are ideal for creating garden borders, foundation plantings, or adding colorful blooms to your landscape.

Lilac shrubs produce fragrant flowers and thrive in full sun with well-drained soil. They prefer slightly alkaline soil and are cold-hardy. Hydrangeas offer large, showy flower clusters and prefer morning sun with afternoon shade. Most hydrangeas need well-drained soil and consistent moisture. Both shrubs should be soaked for at least 6 hours before planting.

For planting, loosen soil to a depth of at least 12 inches and mix in compost and all-purpose granular fertilizer. Dig holes as deep as the roots grow and wide enough for roots to fully extend. Water deeply once per week during the first growing season unless natural rainfall is adequate. Mulch with shredded bark or leaves to keep roots moist and minimize weed growth. These plants will establish roots in their first year and begin more vigorous growth in the second year, with full flowering typically starting in the third year.
