Il Marroneto "Madonna delle Grazie" (MDG) is the flagship Brunello di Montalcino DOCG wine from one of Tuscany's most celebrated estates, presented in a 750ml bottle. Produced from a single hillside parcel situated just below the ancient walls of Montalcino, this wine stands as the pinnacle of Il Marroneto's portfolio and among the most acclaimed wines in all of Italy.
Founded in 1974 by Giuseppe Mori, Il Marroneto is a family estate now overseen by three generations of the Mori family on the cool, steep north-facing slopes of Montalcino at approximately 350 meters elevation. The estate is farmed organically without synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides. The Madonna delle Grazie is made from 100% Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello), fermented with indigenous wild yeasts and macerated for approximately three weeks. It is then aged for over 40 months in large-format neutral Slavonian oak barrels, followed by further bottle aging before release, in keeping with DOCG regulations.
Since 2010, the Madonna delle Grazie has accumulated more 98-, 99-, and 100-point scores from publications including Wine Advocate, Vinous, and Kerin O'Keefe than its next three closest competitors combined. Antonio Galloni of Vinous has called Il Marroneto "the single most important yet under-the-radar estate in all of Montalcino."
