Tagaro Cinquenoci Primitivo is a bold, full-bodied red wine from Puglia, Italy, produced by Masseria Tagaro from the heart of Salento. The name "Cinque Noci" — Italian for "Five Walnuts" — refers to five walnut trees that grow among the vines, a symbol of roots and heritage. Made from 100% Primitivo grapes sourced from 30-year-old vines cultivated on calcareous soils mixed with red clay.
The wine undergoes an initial cold maceration before fermentation with selected yeasts and extended skin contact. After malolactic fermentation, it ages for six months in oak barrels followed by three months of bottle aging. In the glass it shows an intense ruby red color with violet reflections. The nose offers rich aromas of plum jam, blackcurrant, dried fruit, sweet spices, grilled herbs, and vanilla. On the palate it is rich and structured, with ripe fruit sweetness balanced by firm tannins and a long, juicy berry finish. Rated 92/100 by Natalie MacLean and James Suckling. Ideal drinking window 2025–2030.
Pairs beautifully with slow-braised short ribs, venison ragu, pasta with hearty meat sauce, beef and veal stews, and grilled game sausages. Serve at 18–20°C.
