The Sun Star (Ornithogalum dubium), also known as the Orange Star plant, is a cheerful South African native flowering bulb presented in a 9-inch ceramic pot. This Costco garden item features bright orange, star-shaped flowers that are long-lasting and produced over an extended bloom season in spring.

Sun Star adapts to most soil types but thrives in fertile, well-drained soil with full sun to part shade exposure. It grows 8 to 12 inches tall and is well-suited to containers, rock gardens, mixed borders, and border fronts. The plant attracts pollinators and produces fragrant blooms. Water thoroughly but allow the soil to dry between waterings, and feed once a month during the growing season. After flowering, foliage will yellow and die back as the bulb goes dormant through mid-summer; cut back the foliage at the base when it turns brown.

All parts of Ornithogalum dubium are toxic to humans, cats, and dogs. Wear gloves when handling the plant for pruning or repotting, and keep out of reach of children and pets.
