Chateau St. Jean Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a bold, structured red wine from the Knights Valley appellation in Sonoma County, California. Sourced from high-elevation vineyards between 500 and 1,400 feet, the vines — many over 30 years old — grow in rocky, well-draining soils ranging from cobbly clay and sandy loam to ancient weathered sandstone. This rugged terrain, warmer than much of Sonoma, makes Knights Valley an exceptional home for Bordeaux varieties.
The wine opens with rich aromas of black cherry, black currant, and dark chocolate, giving way to a full-bodied palate of blackberry, blueberry, cocoa, and baking spice. Velvety tannins lead to an elegant, lingering finish. The blend is composed of approximately 80% Cabernet Sauvignon with Malbec and Merlot rounding out the profile. It has earned high praise from critics, including 93 points from James Suckling, 93 from Decanter, 95 from the Tasting Panel, and 91 from Wine Enthusiast.
Founded in 1973 in the Sonoma Valley, Chateau St. Jean is known for its range of Sonoma County wines, vineyard-designated bottlings, and its flagship Cinq Cépages Cabernet Sauvignon. The Knights Valley Cabernet pairs beautifully with herb-garlic lamb chops, bacon-wrapped dates with goat cheese, and hearty meat dishes.
