Avennia's Justine is a Southern Rhone-inspired red blend from Washington's Yakima Valley, crafted by winemakers Marty Taucher and Chris Peterson—Seattle Magazine's 2017 Winemaker of the Year and International Wine Report's 2023 Washington State Winemaker of the Year. The wine reflects their belief that Washington is capable of producing world-class blends of grape varieties traditional to the Southern Rhone region of France, with the name inspired by one of the great heroines of recent literature who also sprang from the Mediterranean imagination.

The blend is led by Grenache (62%), followed by Mourvèdre (23%) and Syrah (15%), sourced from Upland, Kiona Heart of the Hill, and Oldfield vineyards. Vinification uses native yeast, with aging for 16 months in predominantly neutral French oak (91%), plus 9% new French oak, and is bottled unfined and unfiltered. The nose leads with aromas of black raspberry, kirsch, lavender, jasmine, and wet limestone, while the palate delivers concentrated dark red fruits, blackberry, licorice root, garrigue, and savory umami notes with a stony minerality evoking the Old World wines that inspired this classic blend.

The Justine has earned consistent critical acclaim across multiple vintages, including 93 points from Wine Enthusiast (Editors' Choice), 93–95+ points from Jeb Dunnuck, and 93 points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. Production is limited to approximately 315–317 nine-liter cases per vintage. Suggested retail is $47.50 per 750ml bottle.
