Château La Sauvageonne Terrasses du Larzac Grand Vin Rouge is a prestigious red wine from the acclaimed Terrasses du Larzac appellation in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of southern France. This Grand Vin is crafted by renowned winemaker Gérard Bertrand from a legendary estate where optimal sun exposure and exceptional terroir combine to produce wines of distinctive character.
The wine is a sophisticated blend of Grenache Noir, Syrah, and Carignan grapes, carefully selected from individual lots growing among basalt, schist, and red soils known as 'ruffes'. The grapes are hand-harvested with rigorous sorting, and each variety is vinified separately. Maceration lasts 20 to 25 days, followed by aging in new 225-liter oak barrels for 12 to 16 months. The Terrasses du Larzac appellation benefits from substantial temperature variations, with sea distance and mountain proximity providing cool summer nights that allow grapes to mature slowly and develop rich, deep color.
The wine presents an intense ruby robe with flashes of tile-red. The nose features prominent echoes of Mediterranean scrubland, jammy fruit, and lively spice, with subtle hints of dark fruit and gingerbread. On the palate, elegant and refined tannins frame the wine with great balance and vivacity. Tasting notes reveal a huge floral, toasted oak nose with black pepper and raw meat notes flecked with garrigue, tapenade, and black fruits. The attack is youthful, the texture and mouthfeel sophisticated, and the tannins dense but sweet. More intense licorice, orange peel, black plum, black raspberry, and meaty flavors persist throughout the long finish.
This Grand Vin is a perfect match for grilled Aubrac steaks, Larzac cheeses, and other classics of southern French cuisine. The wine has an alcohol content of 15% and carries the AOP Terrasses du Larzac appellation designation.
