Vivier Wines Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir is a California red wine crafted by Stéphane Vivier, a Burgundy-trained winemaker who founded Vivier Wines in 2009 alongside his wife and partner Dana Sexton. Stéphane holds an enology degree from the Université de Bourgogne and brings a classic French sensibility to his Sonoma Coast expressions.
The Sonoma Coast bottling draws fruit from select vineyards in the Petaluma Gap region, including heritage Burgundian vine selections with 30-year-old vines. The wine is aged in seasoned French oak and bottled without fining or filtration, reflecting a minimalist, terroir-driven approach. It is sold in cases of 12 bottles (750ml each).
On the nose, the wine offers Asian spices, fresh and sautéed mushrooms, Bing cherries, and redwood forest floor. The palate is juicy and lively, with flavors of blood oranges, grapefruit rind, fresh raspberries, and a distinct salinity that speaks to the coastal influence. Recent vintages have earned exceptional critical acclaim, including a 95-point score from James Suckling and a Double Gold at the Sunset International Wine Competition.
