The 6" Alocasia Water Root is a striking tropical foliage plant sold in a 6-inch pot. Alocasias are celebrated for their dramatic, oversized arrow- or heart-shaped leaves with bold veining, native to the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands. The "water root" designation indicates this specimen has been propagated or conditioned for hydroponic or semi-hydroponic culture, meaning its root system has been developed in water, making it particularly adaptable to water growing methods.
This plant can be maintained in a vessel of fresh water, with roots fully submerged and the crown supported above the waterline, or transitioned into a well-draining potting mix. When grown in water, change the water every 7 to 10 days to maintain oxygen levels and prevent stagnation. In soil, allow the top one to two inches to dry before watering again, as overwatering in dense potting media can cause root rot. Alocasias thrive in bright, indirect light and prefer warm temperatures with high humidity. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the large decorative leaves.
Alocasia plants contain calcium oxalate crystals and are toxic to cats, dogs, and humans if ingested. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
